Brussel Sprouts, Robertson Quay

Brussel Sprouts is one of a few names that comes to mind when talking about Belgian food in Singapore. This casual dining establishment is owned by the same people of Saint Pierre, so you know the food's gonna be good.

While the food and service are faultless, the fact that the eatery doesn't have an air-conditioned indoor option makes the dining experience less than stellar. A tip is to get tables at the outdoor terrace, you're more likely to catch a cooling riverside breeze there than being confined to the indoor area which is only cooled by fans.

We wanted to get the grilled summer vegetable salad, but they were unfortunately out of it. So, at our request, the waitress very kindly agreed to an off-menu starter of Grilled Portobello ($18) served with a side of mesclun leaves drizzled with a sweetish-savoury gomadare dressing comprising mayo, sesame sauce and mirin. Despite the juicy mushrooms being drenched in waaay too much butter, we loved and lapped every bit of this up.

The Parma Ham Wrapped Chicken Thigh ($28) was suitably tasty, moist and succulent. The roasted potatoes were infused with aromatic thyme and roasted to a smoky finish.

The Braised Veal Cheek ($28) infused with Brune beer for a sweetish tinge was fork-tender and so moist it practically melted in the mouth. A sprinkling of cherry tomatoes and baby French beans completed the dish.
