Paradise Inn, City Square Mall

Although I've heard rave reviews of the cze char at the Paradise Inn group of restaurants, I've mostly found their food to be a little too salty and/or reeking of MSG. Now, you may wonder why I still eat at their restaurants then. Well, it's because they serve up a wide variety of herbal double-boiled soups. Which I love love lurve.

We started off with the Hot Plate Tofu with Preserved Cai Xin ($10), which, as expected, was quite salty. That said, the thickly luscious, rich with oyster essence and eggy gravy would be ideal as a contrast if ladled over plain white rice.

Tonight, I got the Double Boiled Pig Stomach Soup with White Pepper ($13.80) which purportedly has slimming properties, prevents colds, expels wind, strengthens stomach functionalities. This is apparently great for women. Obviously. This was light and peppery, but I noticed some MSG-grains at the bottom of the serving pot.

The Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Fish and Water Chestnut ($8) is very homestyled, with water chestnut lending crunch and a refreshing edge, but I felt that this would have been softer and retained more moisture if taken off the steamer 2 minutes earlier.

To cut through the salt and MSG, we got the Lemongrass & Passionfruit Iced Tea ($4.20), subtly aromatic, refreshing and sweet.
