Crystal Jade Kitchen, Suntec City Mall

Crystal Jade Kitchen is one of my default dining choices because it’s reliable, convenient and serves comfort food. I particularly like this branch because of the exceptional service. Although this place is regularly packed, the service staff are intuitive and show great initiative. That said, I’ve realized that one of the reasons for the Crystal Jade group of restaurants is because of their efficient service standards. They employ a large number of middle-aged aunties whose efficiency and nimble footwork belie their age.

Everytime I patronize this branch at Suntec, the service staff will always remember that I love my iced Chinese tea with a straw, and to hold off the spring onions in all my dishes. It’s the simple things like these which evinces their exceptional service.

As both the BF and I are still on the crispy noodle (sang mee) crave, we ordered the beef ($12.80) and seafood ($14.80) crispy noodles. Crystal Jade’s version uses thin noodles (eu mien). Me thinks it might be the same noodles used in their wanton noodles, just deep fried. The portion was quite big though. Seafood was fresh, beef was tender (artificially?) and gravy was gooey and rich.

We also got the Wanton Soup ($6.80), sans spring onions. Thin, silky wanton skins which envelope a whole crunchy prawn. There are about 7 wantons in a bowl, and you can ask them for refills of the soup. Add in a little sambal chili and the flavour is complete.

Pardon me, I was halfway through the wantons when I realised that I'd forgotten to take a picture of it!

Oh and something has to be said about the Sambal Chili. Save for the oil, the chili is spicy, sweet and savoury with the taste of fried pounded dried shrimp. I’ve been known to eat the chili as an appetizer on its own. Up to 2 saucers in a sitting.



The bill came up to $42.75. You can opt not to have the wet tissues and appetizers which are chargeable, and the staff will be more than happy to oblige you.

Queensway Shopping Centre , where locals flock to for all things sports and optical-related, is also known for good laksa. There are 2 laksa stalls, within a stone's throw of each other, both claiming to serve up the best. ABC Brickworks Food Centre

싱가포르에 호커 센터 중에서 에이비씨 브릭워케 호커 센터를 우리가 제일 좋아해요. 실제로 싱가포르에서 가장 크고 유명한 호커 센터 중 하나예요. 가끔 외국인 여행자들이 이 호커 센터에서 식사하고 관광도 해요.  호커 음식은 내가 우리 나라 싱가포르에서 제일 사랑하는 것이에요. 호커 푸드는 내 컴포트 푸드여서 내 마음에 들어와요. 음식도 싸고 맛있고 종류도 많아요. 해외여행 가면 그리운 음식이 호커푸드인데 싱가포르에 돌아와서 가장 먼저 먹는 음식이 박초미예요.  박초미은 아마도 내가 제일 좋아하는 호커푸드예요. 나는 식초맛을 좋아하고 버섯볶음이 제일 맛있고 용기가 제일 맛있어요.   =========================   ABC Brickworks is one of the more well-known, and beloved, hawker centres in SG. Gong Yuan Ma La Tang

C'est la saison de la soupe. Meme si on n'a pas les quarte saisons à Singapour, le temps devient "pas aussi chaud" vers la fin de l'année; c'est cette période que j'ai envie de soupes et de ragoûts...ils sont très très réconfortants!  Dans d'autres nouvelles, les lumières et décorations de Noël à Rue Orchard sont allumées!! Je ne suis pas sûr pourquoi, mais voir les lumières de Noël me rend toujours heureux. Je pense, c'est peut-être parce que les lumières de Noël signifient l'approche de Noël, ma saison préférée de tous. Même si on ne fête pas Noël pour des raisons religieuses, c'est toujours le temps de la gentillesse et l'amour, toutes les qualités que j'apprécie et chérit.
